Robins shoot best round of year, on to sectional play

The Antigo Red Robins golf team has advanced to the sectional round.

Playing the Turtleback Golf Course in Rice Lake, the Robins shot their best round of the season, a 347, taking the third of four sectional qualifying spots.

“What a great day for AHS golf,” head coach Mike McCann said.  “We shot our best round of the year on one of the most difficult courses we have played all year.  The kids were focused and ready to go.”

Medford was first overall with a 333, eight  shots better than Rice Lake and its 341 round.  The Robins were next in third, followed by Northland Pines.

Zachary Hintz of Medford was the meet medalist, carding a 76, while Antigo’s Cody Parsons was third overall with a round of 80.

Remaining Antigo scores included Mitch Meyer with an 87, Jack Hilger an 88, Luke Quinlan carded a 92 and Ean Perry 96.

“Mitch and Jack took a step forward and played great rounds,” McCann noted.  “Luke and Ean grinded all day and shot solid rounds.”

Antigo will play the Lake Wissota Course in Tuesday’s sectional meet.

“It is back to work to get ready for the big test ahead,” McCann added.
