The Antigo Red Robin hockey team suffered its first loss of the season Tuesday night dropping a 5 – 1 decision to the SPASH Panthers at K.B. Willett Arena in Stevens Point.
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw after the 1st period, then SPASH would strike first at 7:26 of the 2nd period on an even strength goal by Leo Knapp assisted by Cole Beilke to take a 1 – 0 lead. It would stay that way until 16 seconds of the 3rd period when the Panthers would tally the first of two short-handed goals on the evening, this one by Trey Zagrzebski, unassisted making it 2 – 0 SPASH. The Panthers extended the lead to 3 – 0 at 5:05 of the 3rd with another short-handed goal, Barrett Brooks fed Dayne Hoyard who beat Robin netminder Brody Bunnell for the score. Zagrzebski would score his 2nd goal of the contest of 7:55 of the 3rd to make it 4 – 0, this time assisted by Hoyard. After an Antigo time-out the Robins would get on the board at 9:39 of the period, Eric Langseth unleashed a shot from the left circle that got by SPASH goalie Spencer Wierzba, cutting the Panther lead to 4 – 1. Point would tack on one more score at 14:11 of the 3rd when Lucca Weinkauf would bury an Antigo defensive zone turnover in the back of the net making the final score 5 – 1 in favor of the Panthers.
Antigo netminder Brody Bunnell stopped 25 of the 30 shots he faced on the evening while Spencer Wierzba had 14 saves in 15 chances for SPASH. The Robins were whistled for just 2 penalties while the Panthers committed 6 penalties, neither team was able to score on the power play opportunities.

The Robins junior varsity squad also fell to SPASH by an 8 – 1 final, Caleb Jaje tallied the lone Robins goal, the JV will also be back in action on Thursday hosting Mosinee, that contest is scheduled to begin at 4:45 from the MPB.
