The first Varsity Girls Basketball game played in the new gym will go down in the books as a positive start with the 39-32 win over Bowler.
The Lady Hornets shot 32 % the first half and 22% the second half from the field. The girls shot 46% from the free throw line.
Coach Michelle Kincaid adds: “The victory was just one of the highlights of the evening. Playing in the new gym was exciting for the girls, and having such great community turnout was another plus for everyone. The new gym is a different atmosphere and I believe it will take the girls a few games to really make it their own when they take the court for each and every home game. Both teams played well and were quite evenly matched. ”
The first half was a back and forth battle which ended in a tie at 16-16 going into the half. Offensively, Bowler was running their 1/2 court offense very well. The Hornets took a 10 point lead with about nine minutes remaining.
Scoring was lead by Katie Slowik with 14, Ellie Asbach 9, Emma Reynolds 7, Erica Manka 5, Kaitlyn Paulsen 3, and Anna Schilling adding 1. The girls had 22 turnovers. Coach Kincaid says “this number has to decrease to best help us have more wins this season.”
Rebounding was lead by Manka with 8, Asbach 7, Slowik 6, Reynolds and Schilling each with 5, and Paulsen wtih 2.
Coach Kincaid adds: “I was so proud of the girls for continuting to play hard and never giving up when Bowler took the lead just before the mid point of the second half. We have lots to improve on this year and positions to become familair with so we will continue to work hard and the goal is to get better each game. “
