Antigo Falls to Berlin Indians 35-14 (8/17)

The Robins home-opener against Berlin went the other way this time. In the 2017 season, the Robins defeated Berlin 20-14. Berlin defeated the Robins Friday night 35-14 in the season opener for both teams, showing that the team had made strides since their loss against the Robins a year ago.

Berlin scored 35 unanswered points. Coach Schofield said the team had their chances, but the fundamentals and tackling were not there. Coach added he was happy  to have faced a good team.

The Indians put together 378 yards of total offense in this one. The game started off promising for the Robins. Eric Langseth picked off a pass from Lane Sobieski on Berlin’s first possession. Antigo was unable to capitalize on the turnover. Robins Junior-Quarterback Nevin Conelius made his first career start but was sacked on third down to go 3-and-out.

From there, Berlin marched down the field with their trio of quarterback Lane Sobieski, Running Back Alex Moriarty and wide-receiver Ryan Bartol doing most of the damage. Moriarty put the first points on the board, running the ball in from the 7 yard line for 6 points to take the early lead. The Robins were unable to answer back with their next possession. Berlin wasted no time getting out to a 14-0 lead with Moriarty scoring again.

The Indians went up 21-0 before the half, going 95 yards in 4 plays off an interception.

The Indians would score on their first two possessions after the half. An 8-yard pass to Ryan Bartol and Aidan Schilling would run in a touchdown, but the Robins showed heart and didn’t give up in their 21-point loss. An 11-yard touchdown run by Isaac Wickerheim and a pass from Cornelius to Eric Langseth would prove the Robins were not going to fold in this one.

The Robins hoping their momentum from their late-game drives will carry over to their next game against Stratford. Coach Schofield notes Stratford is tough, running a similar offense with great blockers. Coach also mentioning the Robins will need solid blocking and improvement from the defense to get a win this Friday.

The Robins travel to Stratford for a 7pm kickoff.
