Lawmakers To Defy Court Order, Rewrite Election Law

Antigo, WI, United States /

The controversy continues in the state legislature today over a court order commanding the state to hold special elections to fill two vacant legislative seats. GOP leaders refused on Friday to accept that court order, and instead said they will call lawmakers back to Madison to rewrite election laws. The Senate and Assembly wrapped up their sessions last week, and lawmakers returned to their districts. Senate Democratic Minority Leader Jennifer Shilling said in a statement that Republicans were throwing a “temper tantrum” because they lost in court and fear the open seats could flip to Democratic control.
