Wednesday walkouts will be happening at some schools in the area as local students pay tribute to show solidarity with the 17 students and staff who died in the Parkland High School massacre in Florida. Nationwide, school students are walking out at 10am for 17 minutes. The Antigo Daily Journal reports at Antigo High School, teachers will take a few minutes at the beginning of fourth hour to read a statement and then pass out a handout where the students are asked to talk to 17 people they normally wouldn’t talk to and write down one interesting thing about them. At the Middle School, there will be 17 seconds of silence at 10 a.m. followed by five minutes of time for discussion. Elcho and White Lake are following a policy allowing students to be excused with permission from a parent. At White Lake the school has set up an assembly area outside the building and there will be supervision if students do decide to walk out.
