There could be a referendum in the future for people who live in Merrill. The school district there faces an operating budget deficit of just under $2 million. Right now they/re borrowing from savings to keep things running. Superintendent Dr. John Sample says they’ve also been making cuts along with the way. A consultant did a sampling survey of 16 hundred residents and reportedly found that two out of three respondents favored some kind of referendum to help pay for schools. One that got some favorable response involved raising two and a half million dollars per year, over the next four years to put the district on better footing.
