The Antigo Red Robin softball team dropped a pair of games to Rhinelander on Tuesday by scores of 3-2 and 6-1.
Antigo, serving as the home team in game one, fell behind 2-0 in the first inning to the Hodags and gave up one more run in the top of the 7th to see the Hodags take a 3-0 lead. The Robins pushed 2 runs across in the bottom of the 7th as Kendall Smith blasted a 2 run homerun but Rhinelander was able to hang on for the win. Allison Kondzela went the distance for Antigo giving up the 3 runs (1 earned) on just 3 hits, she struck out 6 and did not issue a walk. The Robins outhit the Hodags 8-3 in the loss.
Rhinelander also jumped out to a quick lead in game two plating a run in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Hodags would tack on 4 more in the 4th to take a 5-0 lead. Antigo scored its only run in the 5th when Laurissa Belott doubled and was driven in by Laynie Weix who also doubled. Kendall Smith took the loss for the Robins.
Antigo fell to 8-3 in the GNC and into a 2nd place tie with Rhinelander, the Robins sit at 18-5 overall. With the pair of Antigo losses Mosinee secured the GNC Softball crown for 2017, Antigo will host Mosinee in the regular season finale on Thursday.
