Judge Considers Lower Bail For Man Caught In Internet Sex Sting

Antigo, WI, United States /

Bail remains set at 100-thousand dollars for a man caught in an Internet sex sting who led police on a high speed chase, but that could change. The public defender for Gene Schneider requested that Judge John Rhode lower the bail to 15 thousands. Judge Rhode said he was surprised to find that the defendant’s parents had driven 200 miles to be at the hearing, and they were offering to post bail of 15 thousand dollars. The judge said he wasn’t prepared to rule on the request. He said he would need more information on the defendant’s history, work record, criminal record and perhaps look at references from acquaintances before making a final decision. Schneider drove to Antigo to meet what he thought was a 13 year old girl for sex. Instead, he had been communicating online with a police detective.
