The Antigo Varsity squad fell to Rhinelander in Game 1 of 2 by a score of 4-3. The girls fell behind early and couldn’t get out of the hole.
Offense came from mostly the long ball, Kendall Smith and Lizzy West both hitting home runs. Kendall pitched a complete game with 6 strikeouts, 4 walks on 6 hits and 4 runs. Kendall and Lizzy’s only hits were home runs
In Game 2, the girls were able to score 3 runs in the top of the first. Kendall Smith had another home run, this time with 3 RBI’s. Alicia Turunen lead off the 1st with a triple. Laynie Weix followed with a double to get two runners on base for Kendall Smith, who would hit a home run and get the Robins on the board, giving her 3 RBI’s early. The 6th inning is where the game took off. Abby Robrecht started the inning with a single. Next, Taylor Arrowood hit a single of her own. Alicia Turunen kept the line moving with a single, loading the bases for Layne Weix. Laynie would drive in Abby with a single, moving Arrowood to third and Turunen to second. With Laynie on first, Emily Brettigen walked to get Arrowood home. Kendall Smith was up next and hit into a Fielder’s Choice. Lizzy West would single and Allison Peters would walk, all with one out in the inning. The Robins batted through the order in the 6th, racking up 8 runs in the process. The final was 12-2 in 6 innings of play.
Laynie Weix had 3 hits and 3 RBI’s, going 3-5, Alicia Turnunen drew key walks and went 2-3. Taylor Arrowood went 3-4, Kendall Smith went 1-4 with 2 runs and a home run, Lizzy West was 2-3. Abby Robrecht was 2-4 with a run scored.
Kendall Smith was on the mound again in Game 2, throwing 6 innings, registering 6 strikeouts on 3 walks, 2 hits and 2 runs allowed.
