The Antigo Red Robin Baseball team swept a double header from Medford on Thursday, defeating the Raiders by scores of 10-0 in six innings and 12-0 in 5 innings.
In Game 1, the Robins would get to Medford starter Cade Alexander for a run in the 2nd inning, plating Nick Marshall on a Matt Winter sac-fly to center to go up 1-0. As has happened many times this season, Antigo would break the game open in the 3rd inning pushing across 6 runs in the frame. Garrett Held, Brady Renfro and Wade Farmer would all single to lead off the inning, loading the bases. After a Sebby Noskowiak pop-up to short, Marshall and Eric Langseth would each single driving in runs. Luke Schroeder then doubled driving in 2 more extending the Robins lead to 5-0. Winter would follow with a 2-RBI single to make it 7-0 Antigo after 3 innings of play.
The score would remain 7-0 until the bottom of the 6th when the Robins tacked on 3 more runs to end the game via the 10-run mercy rule. Held and Renfro each reached on Medford errors with Held scoring on the error that allowed Renfro to reach base making it 8-0 Antigo. Langseth would end the game with a 2-RBI single driving in Renfro and Noskowiak, who reached on a Fielder’s Choice earlier in the inning.
Brady Renfro went the distance for Antigo in picking up the win, the sophomore hurler allowed only 2 hits while striking out 8 and walking just one in 6 innings of work. Cade Alexander took the loss for Medford.
Offensively, the Robins scored 10 runs on 13 hits. Schroeder and Langseth were each 3-4 on the day while Winter, Farmer and Marshall added 2 hits apiece.
It was more of the same in Game 2 for Antigo, as the Robins scored 12 runs and pounded out 14 hits in defeating the Raiders 12-0.
After a scoreless 1st inning, Antigo jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Consecutive base hits by Held, Noskowiak and Marshall got things going for the Robins, Noskowiak also had an RBI driving in Held for the game’s first run, Cody Urban would also add a 2 single in the inning.
The Robins would extend the lead to 7-0 in the 3rd. After a Brady Tatro walk to lead off the inning Held would reach on an error on the Medford 3rd baseman allowing Tatro to score, Farmer would then step to the plate and single to drive in Held. Noskowiak reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a sac fly by Urban to put Antigo on top 7-0.
The Robins would put the game out of reach in the top of the 5th plating 5 runs to go up 12-0, again ending the game via the 10-run mercy rule. Jackson Burkhart singled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI double by Urban, Urban then scored on a single by Langseth. Logan Doering followed Langseth’s single with one of his own. After a Corbin Krueger flyout to left Tatro stepped up and drove in 2 more runs with a single. Farmer would also add an RBI in the inning with a 2-out double to cap the scoring.
Sebby Noskowiak picked up the win for Antigo going all 5 innings allowing just 1 hit while striking out 9 Raider hitters and did not issue a walk. Brady Loertscher took the loss for Medford giving up 7 runs on 7 hits with 1 base on balls in an inning and 2/3rds.
Farmer lead the Robins at the plate going 3-4 with a double and 2 RBI’s, Tatro, Urban and Langseth added two hits apiece for Antigo.
With the win Antigo improved to 9-0 in the Great Northern Conference, remaining in sole possession of first place, and 16-1 overall. Medford fell to 3-5 in the GNC and 7-6 overall. The Robins will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Marshfield to take on Holmen and Marshfield. Antigo returns to conference play on Tuesday traveling to Rhinelander for a twin bill with the Hodags.
