Hernan Perez and Eric Thames hit solo home runs as the Brewers clipped the Cardinals 3-2 in the rubber match of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Jonathan Villar’s RBI-groundout in the 5h proved to be the difference. Junior Guerra was called up from the minors to make the start for the Crew. He allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings for the win. The Brewers called up pitchers Junior Guerra and Jorge Lopez from Triple-A Colorado Springs Wednesday. The Crew designated pitcher J.J. Hoover for assignment and optioned outfielder Brett Phillips to clear roster spots.
The Brewers are headed to New York and will open up a 3-game series with the Mets Friday at Citi Field. Zach Davies will get the start for the Crew. The Mets will counter with left-hander Steven Matz.
