(Milwaukee, WI) — If the Brewers didn’t lead the National League Central, they would still be just two games behind Arizona for the first of two N-L wild cards. And with two paths to the playoffs possible, Brewers’ owner Mark Attanasio says his front office needs to be “focused” during the two weeks before the July 31st trade deadline. The Brewers have spent the last two years building up a solid array of minor league prospects with an eye toward being in the playoff hunt more consistently in the future. General manager David Stearns says he won’t tear the rebuilding process apart to win now, but Milwaukee still reportedly has an interest in trading for Oakland starter Sonny Gray, and there are reports that they’re also watching Toronto southpaw J-A (jay) Happ. Whatever the Brewers do, Attanasio says it has to be the “right decision” for both now and the future.
