First meeting Tuesday night of the Antigo school board’s newly-formed Ad Hoc Committee on Facilities and Referenda. They’ll be discussing plans that phase in a schools configuration that critics say would end education in rural areas. Unless something new is explored, the current consolidation plan will move eighth grade students currently housed at the Middle School to the high school, making that a 8-12 facility. Fourth and fifth graders would be moved from the elementary schools to Middle School, making that a fourth through seventh grade configuration. All four-year-old kindergarten through grade three students will be housed at East, West and North elementary schools, creating multi-section 4K-third grade schools. Spring Valley, Crestwood and Pleasant View elementary schools will be closed, reports the Antigo Daily Journal.
