The Antigo Red Robin baseball team earned at least a share of the Great Northern Conference title Tuesday evening with a 7-2 victory over the Rhinelander Hodags.
Garrett Held gave the Robins the lead in the 3rd inning launching a 3 run homerun over the left field fence to put Antigo up 3-1. Held drove in another run in the 5th inning driving in AJ Kirsch to make the score 4-1 and the Robins added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th , all coming after 2 outs, as Matt Winter doubled driving in Matt Arndt and two batters later AJ Kirsch tripled to score Winter and Brady Tatro. Rhinelander would score in the top of the 7th to make the final score 7-2.
Tatro picked up the win for the Robins going 6 2/3’s innings, he allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, struck out 5 and walked 3. AJ Kirsch led Antigo at the plate going 3-4 with a triple and 2 RBI’s, Held was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI’s and the 3 run homerun, Matt Arndt went 2-4 with a double, Hunter Kirsch was 2-3, Matt Winter was 1-4 with a double and Jesse Jankowski added a base hit for Antigo.
With the win Antigo improves to 19-2 overall, 10-0 in the GNC and has now won 18 straight games. The Robins travel to Mosinee on Thursday with a chance to clinch an outright GNC title.
