The Antigo Red Robin softball team traveled to Wisconsin Rapids and picked up a pair of victories over Raiders on Saturday.
In game one Kendall Smith’s long 2 run homerun in the 3rd inning proved to be the difference as the Robins staved off a late Rapids rally and held on for a 5-3 victory. Allison Kondzela picked up the win going all 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 7 and allowing only 1 free pass. Laurissa Belott also added 2 hits for Antigo.
The Robins found themselves trailing in the 3rd inning of game two as the Raiders pushed across 5 runs in the 3rd to grab a 5-3 lead over the Robins but the Antigo bats came alive in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings as Antigo came back to defeat Rapids 16-5 in 6 innings. Kendall Smith earned the win for Antigo giving up 5 runs on 6 hits, she struck out 8 and walked 5. Offensively for the Robins Kondzela was 3-3 with a home run, Belott was also 3-3 in the contest. Abi Fleischman, Smith and Molly Fermanich each added 2 hits with Smith belting her 2nd home run of the day.
With the victories Antigo improved to 18-2 on the year, the Robins will travel to Marshfield this afternoon before heading to Rhinelander on Tuesday for a double header with the Hodags.
