As prom night approaches at Antigo High School, school officials are assuring parents that they are on top of safety and security. At last year’s prom, a gunman lurked in the parking lot and opened fire on two students as they left the building. The students survived. The gunman, 18 year old Jakob Wagner did not. He was shot to death by a quick thinking Antigo police officer, before he could hurt anyone else. School officials sent a letter to parents about prom, which says there will be be a law enforcement presence both in the building and outside on the campus property throughout the night. Prom events will include law enforcement monitoring students as they arrive, during the grand march and dance and as students leave the event throughout the night.
